Suggested activities:

A relevant and meaningful context is vital to engage the maximum number of children.

• With whole class, generate captions for information posters to display in classroom / around school.
• Have children suggest and check captions for photos taken on sports day, school fete, a special visit.
• Incorporate caption writing in other curriculum areas.
• Ensure adults make occasional deliberate errors in demonstrating writing for children, to provoke reaction.
