Show children plants or pictures of plants eg apple trees, tomato plants, sweetcorn, cabbages and ask them why it is important for humans to grow plants.

It is important to point out that not all plants are edible and indeed some are poisonous. Pictures of the kind of fruits which are dangerous should also be looked at.
